WHOIS Domain Lookup

Look up registrar, registration dates, name servers and status for any domain.

About this tool

WHOIS is the public registry protocol that records who registered a domain, when it was created, when it expires and which name servers it uses. This tool queries the official registry WHOIS servers directly over port 43 and parses the key fields for you, alongside the raw response.

Use it to check whether a domain is about to expire, confirm a transfer completed, identify the registrar of a domain, or read domain status codes such as clientTransferProhibited before attempting changes.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the owner's name hidden in WHOIS?

Since GDPR and widespread privacy services, most registrars redact personal contact data from public WHOIS. Registrar, dates, status codes and name servers remain public because they are operationally necessary.

What do domain status codes mean?

Status codes describe what operations are allowed. For example clientTransferProhibited blocks transfers (usually a protection you can lift at your registrar), while pendingDelete means the domain is about to be released. serverHold means the registry has suspended the domain — it will not resolve.

When can I register an expired domain?

After expiry a domain typically passes through a ~30-45 day grace period for the owner, then a ~30 day redemption period, then about 5 days of pendingDelete before becoming publicly available again. Total: usually 60-80 days after the expiry date.
